With so many bedtime options available for babies, it can be challenging for parents to choose the safest product. From cots that can be positioned next to an adult bed with one side lowered to self-rocking electronic cradles, the choices are numerous.
In this article, Dr Petrina Wong, a paediatric consultant at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, notes that the American Academy of Pediatrics has not issued specific guidelines for co-sleeping products due to insufficient evidence regarding their impact on sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) or the risks of suffocation.
Dr Wong also points out that while babies sleep, they may exhibit various movements such as smiling, grimacing, or making sucking motions, and their fingers and feet might twitch. Older infants might wake up to practice new skills, such as pulling themselves up to stand.
