CNA - More pregnant women taking respiratory virus vaccine, but uptake still low

Maternal immunisation is an important measure to protect newborns from Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), a leading cause of severe respiratory tract infections and hospitalisations in infants in Singapore. However, overall uptake of the maternal jab remains low, almost two years after it was approved locally.
Speaking to CNA, Dr Petrina Wong explains why many pregnant women remain hesitant to take the single-dose vaccine. She said while awareness is increasing, real concerns about the financial cost of the vaccine, the long-term safety profile and the actual window of protection it will provide to babies are still on parents’ minds.
